Management of WAD can be many. Traditionally, the management of WAD can be divided into pharmacological, conservative and surgical. Surgical options are usually only considered in grade IV presentations, where severe structural damage is present such as fracture, dislocation or nerve damage. For grade I, II and III, management is usually conservative. Some of the common conservative treatments for WAD are listed below. These interventions can be provided by a variety of health professionals including medical and allied health professionals.

The Centre for Allied Health Evidence (CAHE) in collaboration with the Centre of National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation Medicine (CONROD) has developed evidence summaries for common WAD management strategies. These evidence summaries, targeted at consumers, provide an overview of WAD management strategies and the evidence underpinning each management strategy.
